Stepping out onto a frozen lake with no one around to encourage and support me was my hardest achievement so far. My heart was racing, adrenalin surged through my body as thoughts of falling through the ice took over. Films I had watched where people had fallen through the ice came to the forefront. Eventually I slowed my breathing down and took my first step out onto the ice. A couple of local fishermen had ventured out to the center of the lake so I thought if they can do it then so can I.
Hesitantly I took my next step, it felt as if I was learning to walk again, like a child toddling for the first time.
After a while my confidence grew and I ventured further. Being able to trust the landscape to support me and let go of my inhibitions boosted my confidence and enabled me to carry on.
Feeling vulnerable is ok. Trust in yourself and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
