Lorraine Finney (LSINWP) – About the Artist
I’m Lorraine Finney (LSINWP), an award winning Fine Art Landscape Photographer and member of the RPS and SWPP, based in Bournemouth. I create stunning wall art for your workspace and home. I draw inspiration from my Dorset seaside home, solitude and nature; whatever and whoever I encounter on my travels at home and abroad.
Seeing life through a creative lens
Berkshire born and bred, I have an extremely active imagination! My earliest memory is sitting up in bed, picturing faces, animals and clouds within my bedroom curtains and wallpaper. I’m told I see things in everyday life which others don’t see. Quietly observing life, listening, watching and leafing through magazines, I nurtured my artistic eye for colour, composition and design. Happiest outdoors, I have golden memories of holidays on the South Coast and my Uncle’s farm in Devon, making hay, fishing trout and running free.
A sharp eye for detail
For me, everything must be just so. Creating printed materials in a Corporate Marketing department and Print Shop, my work was highly polished and patiently planned. Putting my whole heart into raising my children as a full time mum, I grew my own vegetables and made my own jam. Then when my husband bought my first camera, I discovered a new way of creatively expressing myself; my true vocation.
Expressing precision and emotion
When my children flew the nest, a Professional Photographer encouraged me to follow my heart by studying at the Institute of Photography. Now graduated, I’m pursuing a fine art photography career. My first commission was to create high quality photo prints of an air show. My client loved my fresh perspective, brush strokes in the sky, printed and ready to hang! I realised we’re often too busy to appreciate the beauty around us. My striking photographs, in three formats and fine art papers, offer a simple way to bring beauty to empty wall spaces; a place of quiet contemplation into busy places. It’s an incredible honour when people say they love my work. That’s the ultimate accolade for all the devotion and emotion expressed in my work.
Awards
I have been working towards my Licentiateship Qualification for the past year. This is something that I have been passionate about while gaining recognition for my landscape photography. As a professional photographer I always question my work and don’t think it is good enough compared to others. This qualification proves to me that it is and we should all be confident in our own abilities and photography regardless. It also solidifies all the hardwork that I have put into my photography and the attention to detail that I capture within my landscapes.
A panel of 20 images are submitted and judged on impression, technique, camera craft, composition, lighting and input. I recommend any photographer who is considering entering a qualification not to hesitate and sign up to the mentoring program which leads onto the qualifications.
